Touring Turin (Torino)

Turin, Italy, is a city full of surprises—from its breathtaking architecture and royal history to its world-famous chocolate. Known for its elegant piazzas, scenic riverfront parks, and vibrant food scene, Turin (Torino) offers a perfect mix of culture, cuisine, and charm. Whether you’re strolling through the stunning Musei Reali, taking in views from Monte dei Cappuccini, or indulging in authentic gianduia chocolate, this northern Italian gem has something for every traveler.

Gianduia: A Chocolate Obsession

We had never been fans of Nutella—or hazelnuts in general—but after visiting Turin, we’re officially obsessed with chocolate and hazelnut together. More specifically: gianduia!

Gianduia is a chocolate blend with at least 30% hazelnut paste, and it is DELICIOUS. Available in various forms, it’s hard to find in the United States. We’ve managed to track down a few brands, but nothing compares to the authentic experience in Turin. When in desperation, we order from Venchi, often waiting for a sale or discount on near-expiring products. This new found treat was one of the highlights of visiting Piemonte!

Turin: A City to Appreciate

Beyond chocolate, Turin is stunning. This city often grows on you, revealing its beauty even more after you leave. On this trip:

• We stayed two nights at a charming bed and breakfast at the start of our journey.
• We explored nearby Alba and Asti for a week.
• Upon returning to Turin, we stayed in a different part of the city at one of the best hotels (linked here and here), giving us a fresh perspective on the city’s charm. Even a short walk—just 15 minutes from our first B&B in a stunning former palace (palazzo) (linked here)—offered a new look at streets, squares, and neighborhoods we might have otherwise missed.

• Monte dei Cappuccini: Take the bus up for breathtaking panoramic city views.
• Parco del Valentino: Stroll through the park along the river, explore the rock garden, and discover the medieval village.
• Mole Antonelliana: An iconic symbol of Turin, this architectural marvel houses the National Cinema Museum and offers incredible city views from its observation deck.
• Musei Reali: A historic complex of museums and palaces showcasing art, history, and royal collections—perfect for culture lovers.
